At CHI Memorial, every patient is unique and every treatment approach is personalized. Here is a general overview of the experience to give you an idea of what to expect
Your physician will meet with you to discuss your symptoms. During this meeting, we’ll get to know you and your medical history. We discuss next steps, including your options for additional testing, and we’ll answer any questions you have.
Diagnostic testing typically involves an examination of your internal organs using endoscopy, fluoroscopy, MRI or other imaging tests. Your physician will explain which tests are recommended and what is involved. In some cases, your doctor may take a biopsy, or a small tissue sample, for further examination in our lab.
Developing Your Treatment Plan
A hallmark of CHI Memorial’s approach is a collaborative approach to planning your treatment. Cancer is a complex disease that involves many medical sub-specialties. Every week, our clinical team gathers together for interdisciplinary tumor conferences to review cases and discuss treatment approaches. Your physician will review your treatment plan with you and your family and address any questions or concerns.
Depending on your case, treatment may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or specially targeted treatment approaches. Throughout the treatment phase, your care team will be by your side to support, listen and offer guidance to you and your family members.
Our commitment to you continues throughout your recovery from treatment. In addition to your ongoing medical care, we offer a wealth of support services including support groups, counseling, and advice on healthy eating and exercise.
